Wichita Man Arrested For Weekend Gun Incident At Winfield City Lake

A Wichita man was arrested early Sunday morning following the report of a male who had shot a hand gun towards the direction of a juvenile.

According to the Winfield Police Department, at approximately 1:27 a.m., officers from the WPD, along with the Cowley County Sheriff’s Department, were dispatched to the north side of the Winfield City Lake for a report of a male who had shot a hand gun towards the direction of a juvenile.

As officers were responding, the male suspect left the area but returned shortly later.  Officers arrived at the scene and encountered the male suspect who was later identified as James Richards Jr., 26, of Wichita.

Richards was quickly detained, and witnesses were interviewed.

One witnesses was descriptive of the handgun Richards had discharged along with another who identified him by name.  Officers on scene located a semi-automatic handgun inside the vehicle Richards had been occupying and registered to him.

Richards was placed under arrested and transported to the Cowley County Jail where he was booked in on charges of Aggravated Endangerment of a Child, Unlawful Discharge of a firearm, Interference with Law Enforcement, and criminal possession of a weapon.
