Winfield Man Who Abused Young Child Sentenced To 32 Months

By SHANE FARLEY

Winfield’s Michael Fraley has been sentenced to 32 months in prison for badly injuring a young child last fall.

Fraley entered a guilty plea to a single count of aggravated battery in March and was sentenced June 20, according to Sumner County Dist. Court records. The 23 year-old remains in the Sumner County Jail while awaiting transfer to a Kansas Dept. of Corrections facility.

Fraley entered a plea agreement with prosecutors to avoid trial. Another charge of aggravated battery and a count of abuse of a child, were dismissed.

Fraley was arrested Oct. 25 and released the next day on a $20,000 bond.

He was accused of causing fractures to a 9-month-old by recklessly jerking the child out of a bouncer chair about three times and breaking his legs with excessive force.

On a separate occasion, Fraley also is said to have inflicted cruel corporal punishment by slamming the child to the floor causing serious injuries including spinal fractures.

The crimes occurred Oct. 1 to 16 of last year.

Sources tell KSOK-NewsCow Fraley was living in Oxford with his then-girlfriend and her child during that time frame.
