An oil spill across a rural road in Cowley County caused an accident Sunday afternoon, according to Cowley County Sheriff Dave Falletti.

Falletti told KSOK-NewsCow Tuesday morning it’s suspected buckets of oil fell off a vehicle at a curve on Cowley 20 near 191st Road outside of Winfield before two people on a motorcycle drove through it resulting in an accident.

Skye Bevan, 29, and the passenger, Lindsey Bevan, both of Wichita, were transported to Wichita by an ambulance for non-life threatening injuries.

Beverly Cross, a Winfield woman who was riding with the group, witnessed the accident. She was one of at least four other motorcyclists traveling with the group.

“Skye and Lindsey, I had just met that morning, friends of a friend,” Cross told KSOK-NewsCow Tuesday. “Skye’s dad was with us also. I looked at the curve and saw his bike go out from under him like a skateboard would go out from under your feet.”

In a Facebook post about the accident posted Sunday, Cross said the group found a bucket handle, lid and seal along with some pipe fittings but no bucket.

Falletti said whoever was responsible for the spill failed to report it.
