Sheriff’s Office: Wichita Man Killed In Semi Collision Near Oxford Friday Night

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed and the semi driver hurt in an accident on U.S. 160 near Oxford Friday night, according to a news release from Capt. Mike Westmoreland Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Bryan P. Fontana, 44, of Wichita.

The semi driver was identified as Steven W. Snyder, 58, also of Wichita, who received minor injuries.

Westmoreland said the investigation is ongoing.

Friday:

A man was killed Friday night near Oxford just east of the Arkansas River bridge in the 1800 block of U.S. 160.

According to a news release from the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office Saturday, the investigation revealed a 2007 Nissan Murano was traveling eastbound at the curves east of the Arkansas River Bridge.  

As the vehicle drove out of the curve, it crossed the centerline of traffic and collided with a 2018 Volvo Semi Tractor trailer traveling westbound.  

The driver of the Nissan was freed from the vehicle and Winfield EMS transported him to William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.

The man was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel.  

The driver of the semi was treated for minor injuries.

Names are being withheld pending notification of family. The investigation is still ongoing.

The Kansas Highway Patrol assisted at the scene. Authorities responded to the accident at 8:58 p.m.
