UPDATE: Police Say Suspect Who Fled Traffic Stop Has Been Identified

The Winfield Police Department announced on its Facebook page Thursday that it believes it has identified the suspect. No other information was provided.

Winfield police are still looking for a man who fled a traffic stop Thursday morning in Winfield.

According to the WPD’s Facebook page late Thursday night, an officer with the Winfield Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic infraction in the 1400 block of Bliss St.

The driver fled east on 15th Ave. at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit was terminated in the 1400 block of John St. for reason of public safety.

The vehicle was located by a Winfield citizen in the 1600 block of Pearl St. The driver fled on foot, and a female passenger was detained at the scene.

Officers from the WPD, as well as deputies from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, searched for the suspect but we’re unable to locate him in the immediate area.

As of last night, officers from the Winfield Police Department are still actively investigating this incident.
