Law Enforcement: SWAT Team Called To Help Arrest Man In Winfield, Woman Injured

A man was arrested by local authorities Thursday night in Winfield after failing to comply to demands, according to a press release sent Friday by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 9:35 p.m., the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the residence of 12475 75th Road, in Winfield, for a domestic disturbance in progress.

Upon arrival at the residence, deputies made contact with a man identified as 37-year-old Justin Wade Hunter at the front door with a firearm holstered on his hip. The male refused commands to step out of the residence and place his hands on his head.

The male removed the holster with the firearm, threw it at the deputy and advised he had more in the house and was going to get it as he went back inside the residence.

Deputies called out to a female in the residence and she exited the home with injuries to her face.

Authorities say Hunter was not responding to deputies and the Southern Kansas SWAT was called to assist in removing the subject from the home due to the threat of firearms in the home.

Hunter was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Assault with a $30,000 bond.
