One person was critically injured Thursday in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 160 highway east of Winfield.

The 16-year-old male driver of a pickup truck was taken by air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment. His name has not been released by authorities, so far.

A family member told KSOK-NewsCow the driver’s condition had stabilized.

Just after 4 p.m., emergency crews were called to the area of 160 and 181st Rd. for the report of a traffic accident. The truck had left the roadway at a bridge and came to rest in, or near, the creek bed below.

The truck struck a portion of the bridge guardrail.

Crews worked to free the man and an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter out of Ponca City rushed the patient from the scene to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. The Ponca copter was used because a Wichita-based service was not available.
