A person was killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle accident in Sumner County, according to information from Wellington Fire/EMS and Sumner NewsCow.

At approximately 6:44 a.m., Wellington Fire/EMS responded to Oliver Road and U.S. 160 to a two-vehicle injury accident with a person trapped in a vehicle. Upon arrival, first responders found one passenger car in the north ditch with the occupant trapped inside with possible serious injuries.

Another vehicle had gone into a field and overturned with that occupant also trapped inside.

Crews began extraction on the vehicle in the ditch and the door had to be removed. That occupant was transported to Wesley Medical Center.

Belle Plaine Fire District No. 9 and Wellington Fire/EMS forcibly opened and removed the doors on the second vehicle in the field to gain access to the occupant. However, once access was gained, crews determined the occupant to be deceased.

There were 13 emergency personnel on the scene including one engine, two medics, one pickup, and a rescue unit. The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

Names of the injured or deceased have not yet been released.
