ACPD: 16-Year-Old Cited In October Hit-And-Run Case

The Ark City Police Department identified a suspect Monday and issued a citation for a hit-and-run collision that occurred in late October in Ark City, according to a news release from the department Tuesday.

A 16-year-old Ark City juvenile was cited through Arkansas City Municipal Court in connection with the case, which has been handed over to City Attorney Larry Schwartz for further action.

Police took a report Oct. 22 of a hit-and-run that had occurred in the 600 block of North 11th Street.

A homeowner reported that a driver had lost control of a vehicle and struck landscaping, which caused a tree to be pushed completely down.

The victim had surveillance video of the suspect’s vehicle, which appeared to be a Ford Taurus.

The surveillance video subsequently was posted to the department’s Facebook page, with a request for public assistance in identifying the car and/or driver.

However, no tips were generated as a result.

But this month, a witness helped by providing an officer with the tag number of the vehicle involved.

The officer then conducted a follow-up investigation, and was able to identify both the vehicle’s owner and the person who was driving at the time of the collision.
