Sheriff’s Reports: Local Man Arrested After Brief Foot Chase in Winf.; Woman Injured In Accident

A local man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after a brief foot chase in Winfield.

West

35-year-old Justin C. West was arrested on a Kansas Dept. of Corrections warrant. He also faces charges of criminal trespass, criminal damage to property and interference with justice. He was booked into the Cowley County jail and remained there this morning.

West is listed as an absconder through the Dept. of Corrections. He has multiple criminal convictions in this county.

West had fled from Winfield Police earlier in the day Thursday and was spotted again by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept. around 3 p.m. He was chased on foot in the 1100 block of Main.

A deputy used a Taser in an attempt to apprehend West. The Taser missed and West then surrendered to authorities.

An injury accident Wednesday morning sent a driver and her passengers to the hospital for treatment.

Around 8 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 10000 block of 292nd RD for a single vehicle rollover injury accident.

Rachel Freihoff, of Arkansas City, was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango east bound on 292nd RD. A deer entered into the road and Rachel swerved to miss it.

The vehicle went off the road, entered into the south ditch and rolled. Freihoff and her juvenile passengers were transported to SCKMC by ambulance to be treated.
