The Arkansas City Police Department arrested a rural Ark City woman Monday on drug charges after a traffic stop near Ark City High School, according to a news release from the department.
Amy Renee Wingert, 44, was arrested on suspicion of one felony count each of no drug tax stamp and possession of methamphetamine, as well as one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended driver’s license, no proof of insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield on a bond of $7,000 through Cowley County District Court in Ark City.
Wingert remained in custody at the time of this release.
Police were dispatched at 7:58 p.m. Monday for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the south parking lot at ACHS, located at 1200 W. Radio Lane.
The vehicle reportedly had been parked there with its lights on since 6 p.m. When officers arrived, the vehicle left the parking lot and proceeded eastbound on Radio Lane.
After observing the vehicle weaving and failing to maintain its lane, police conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of West Radio Lane and contacted the driver, later identified as Wingert.
Further investigation found her to be in possession of a crystal substance that police suspected was methamphetamine. Wingert subsequently was taken into custody without incident.
