SCKMC Issues New Visitor, Screening Protocols In Response To COVID-19 Threat

The South Central Kansas Medical Center in Ark City announced via a press release Wednesday that it is taking actions to limit access, limit visitors, and screen patients and visitors entering SCKMC and its surrounding clinics in Ark City and Winfield, due to coronavirus concerns.

“We are taking this step as a precautionary measure to protect, current patients, staff and all members of the community as we navigate the ever changing demands and nuances of coronavirus (COVID-19),” the press release reads. “While we still have no confirmed cases in the area, we have seen an increase in respiratory illness in the community.

“We are working continuously with our local health department, KDHE and CDC to ensure guidelines are followed for our community’s protection.

“If you have a fever, cough, sore throat, flu-like symptoms, recent travel outside the country or been in contract with someone with symptoms or recent travel you will not be allowed to visit, but if you are having these symptoms, please be seen at our ER or your primary care physician’s office.”

Public access to SCKMC will be limited and screening of patients and visitors will be provided at the following entrances:

    • Emergency Department Entrance: open 24/7
    • Admissions Desk through main entrance: 6 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
    • Public access to SCKMC through the main entrance: 6 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. After 4:30 p.m., visitors are asked to come through the emergency department entrance
    • Patients will be allowed 1-2 essential visitors
    • Signage will be posted at the entrances
