Strother Field To Receive $30K From Federal Coronvirus Stimulus Bill

By SHANE FARLEY

Strother Field is one of 11 rural airports in South Central Kansas approved for grant funds through the COVID-19 stimulus package passed through Congress last month.

Kansas Fourth Dist. Representative Ron Estes, a Republican, announced the Dept. of Transportation grants in a media release this week.

“The plains of Kansas are no stranger to aviation, and these grants for airports throughout our District will provide needed funding during these challenging times,” Rep. Estes said. “Thanks to the CARES Act, airports in Barber, Butler, Cowley, Greenwood, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Pawnee, Pratt and Sumner counties will receive a combined $339,000 to keep planes flying in these communities.”

Strother Field is located halfway between Ark City and Winfield.

Rep. Estes supported the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, making $10 billion in grants available for airports.

The CARES Act totaled $2 trillion in government spending.

Rep. Estes previously announced a grant for Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport and announced this week that Colonel James Jabara Airport in Wichita would also receive a grant.

The total grant amount for each rural airport in District 4 counties (excluding Sedgwick County) is below.
