Resurfacing work will begin soon on a 12-mile section of K-15 in Cowley County, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation Monday.

The $1 million project will provide a new surface; the technical name is “ultrathin bonded asphalt surfacing.”

The K-15 section that will receive the new surface extends 12.2 miles from the west U.S. 166 junction north to the U.S. 160 junction.

The work is tentatively scheduled to begin around June 22.

Motorists should be prepared to stop and expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Traffic will be controlled by a pilot car. The work is expected to be completed around July 10, depending on the weather.

The Kansas Department of Transportation is overseeing the project.

APAC-Kansas Inc., of Hutchinson, is the primary contractor for the $1,031,339 project.
