Woman Involved In Fatal Crash Saturday Was Arrested For DUI

UPDATE: Monday 1:40 p.m. – Kaitlyn Keeling was booked into the Cowley County Jail on a charge of driving under the influence, according to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept.

Keeling posted $1,000 bond and was released around 2 a.m. Sunday, a few hours after the accident.

Sheriff David Falletti said that any decision to file more serious charges would be left to the county attorney.

An Augusta man was killed late Saturday when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by another vehicle north of Winfield, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

18-year-old Chase Edward Augur was dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred just before 10 p.m. Augur was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

According to the highway patrol report, Augur was westbound in the 11000 block of 82nd Rd. when he was struck by an eastbound 2011 Chevy Traverse that crossed the center line. The driver of the Traverse, 26-year-old Kaitlyn M. Keeling, of Belle Plaine, was not injured.

Augur was riding a 1992 Harley Davidson.

Traffic in the area was diverted for a time as the accident scene was processed.

An investigation is ongoing.
