The Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Ark City man Thursday night on multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted and battered police, according to a press release from the department Friday.
Seth Joshua Easley, 36, was arrested on suspicion of two felony counts of criminal threat; one felony count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and interference with law enforcement; two misdemeanor counts of battery of a law enforcement officer; and one misdemeanor count each of battery and disorderly conduct.
Easley was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail on a $100,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Ark City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.
Officers responded to a disturbance at 10:39 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of West Cedar Avenue.
The disturbance report indicated the suspect, later identified as Easley, had possession of a firearm.
When they arrived, police contacted one of the victims, a 36-year-old Ark City woman, who said Easley had gone inside the residence.
She reported three children also were inside the residence.
As officers tried to convince the woman to remove the children, Easley came outside and became argumentative with the officers. They began trying to de-escalate the situation by moving to a distance.
As the officers tried to convince Easley to step out of the doorway, he went back inside the home, returned with a shotgun, and allegedly pointed it at an officer and verbally threatened to kill the officer.
Police were able to calm Easley down and convince him to put the weapon down. However, as they attempted to place him under arrest, he became combative, resisted arrest and battered two officers.
The officers deployed a Taser on Easley and he was taken into custody without any further incident.
Following the arrest, police followed up on Easley’s medical condition by having the Ark City Fire-EMS Department check him for any injuries or physical complaints prior to his transport to the jail.
