Major Project Will Resurface Almost 40 Miles of U.S. 160 In Cowley And Sumner

About 39 miles of U.S. 160 in Sumner and Cowley counties will be resurfaced beginning soon as part of a nearly $1.9 million project overseen by the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The section to be resurfaced stretches from the Harper-Sumner County line east to the west city limits of Wellington, from the east city limits of Oxford to the west city limits of Winfield and from the east city limits of Winfield to the K-15-U.S. 160 junction.

The work, called a “scrub chip seal,” is expected to start Aug. 17 on the west end of the stretch and be completed around Sept. 14, depending on weather.

Traffic will be controlled by a pilot car. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes and are encouraged to add extra time to their travel schedule or use an alternate route.

Vance Brothers Inc., of Kansas City, Mo., is the main contractor for the $1,886,558 project.
