A Wichita man was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a jet ski accident at the Winfield City Lake.

According to Kansas Game Warden Clint Lee, at approximately 1:15 p.m. Saturday, a jet ski was pulling a man on a tube and hit the face of the dam at the lake.

The impact threw the man off the tube into the rocks.

The man suffered serious injuries and was transported to a Wichita hospital via helicopter. The driver of the jet ski, a man from Derby, was not injured and the jet ski was not damaged.

Names of the men involved in the accident have not been released.

Lee said the preliminary results of the investigation into the accident cited operator error and that no alcohol was involved.

“It was a freak accident,” Lee told KSOK-NewsCow Monday morning.

The Winfield Police Department and Cowley County Sheriff’s Office assisted the game warden’s office at the scene.
