The Winfield Police Department’s annual Community Night Out event will play host to a showing of the movie “Hocus Pocus” at the Island Park Performance Venue on Friday, Oct.9 at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free of charge and open to the public, according to a press release from the WPD Wednesday.

Social distancing guidelines should be followed, and masks should be worn in areas where it is not possible to maintain social distance.

Family appropriate costumes are encouraged, but please leave alcoholic beverages at home as they are not allowed at Community Night Out. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Updates will be posted to facebook.com/WinfieldPolice.

“While exploring ideas for Community Night Out, a member of our committee suggested a movie night with popcorn in lieu of our usual hot dogs and chips,” said Captain Chad Gordon of the Winfield Police Department. “This would allow us to hold a community event while still keeping folks spread out. Our thought is to have folks show up with a blanket or a folding chair and enjoy a movie under the stars.”

In addition to the free movie (provided by the Winfield Recreation Commission and KSOK Radio), those attending can enjoy authentic movie theater popcorn and bottled water, provided by Cowley Cinema 8 and Coca Cola, respectively.

Glow bracelets will be handed out to children before the show, and take-home activity packs courtesy of the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council will be given out at the conclusion of the event (while supplies last).

Those attending will be entered into a prize drawing with items donated from event organizers and area businesses. Each adult will be given a ticket, and numbers will be drawn at random to determine the prize winners.

Employees of the event committee members will not be eligible for the prize giveaways.

“We realize hosting a large community event like this is tricky considering the current concerns for public health,” Gordon said, “but we feel with enough precautions and open outdoor space we can still come together as a community while keeping a safe distance. Events like Island Park Productions’ hugely successful ‘Duck Jam’ concerts are a testament to that notion.”

Winfield Community Night Out is an annual event held each October. It is a collaborative effort between several area organizations.

This year’s event committee consists of representatives from: The Winfield Police Department, Winfield Fire and EMS, City-Cowley County Health Department, Community Health Center, William Newton Hospital, Winfield Recreation Commission, and the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council.
