Testimony Has Concluded In Attempted 2nd-Degree Murder Trial Of Marty Anderson, Jr.

WINFIELD – The state has rested its case in the attempted second-degree murder trial of Marty Anderson Jr. Proceedings in the case were done for the day by noon today.

Closing arguments and jury instruction are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the courtroom of Chief Judge Nicholas St. Peter. Jury deliberations would then begin.

Defense attorney Mike Brown did not present any witnesses on behalf of the defense.

Two cases against Mr. Anderson have been consolidated for trial.

In one case, he is accused of shooting and injuring his wife, Elizabeth Anderson, at their home northwest of Rock in Cowley County in November of 2018.

On the day of the shooting, Anderson, and her two step-daughters were allegedly bound and held hostage inside the home before they were able to escape and were removed from the area by law enforcement.

Charges from that incident include attempted second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, rape and aggravated assault.

In October 2018, Anderson had been arrested and was on bond for allegations of rape, criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties with a child and contributing to a child’s misconduct. The two cases will be tried in front of, and decided by, the same jury.

Anderson remains in the county jail.
