The Ark City USD 470 Board of Education approved the return to full, in-person learning during its meeting Monday night.

Full, in-person learning will return across the district on Nov. 2.

The board also authorized the extension of the full remote learning program for those already participating.

USD 470 began the school year using a hybrid model.

“Please be mindful that as long as there are cases of COVID-19 in the community, there is no way to completely eliminate the risk for transmission within our school population,” the district said in a news release about the change. “Rather, it is our goal to minimize risks and provide a safe learning environment for our staff and students.”

The districts asks parents to perform “basic health checks” prior to sending students back to school each day and to keep students home from school and activities if they do not feel well or have COVID-19 symptoms.

According to the City-Cowley County Health Department website Tuesday, there are 35 active virus cases in the county. The ninth death in the county directly related to COVID-19 was reported by the health department on Friday.

The deceased was an Ark City woman in her 70s.

Monday, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported 454 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cowley County since a national emergency proclamation was issued by the White House on March 13
