Oklahoma Man Arrested, Woman Falls In Oil Tank, Following Police Pursuit

An Oklahoma man was arrested, and a woman fell into a tank of oil, after fleeing from Winfield Police in an incident early this morning.

Around 4:30 a.m., police were dispatched to PrairieLand Partners, at 2300 W. Ninth Ave., for the report of a theft in progress. Officers arrived to find a white Dodge truck with a trailer attached to it, according to a written media release from police.

Officers activated their emergency lights and the vehicle then fled with the trailer attached. A pursuit began and police followed the vehicle into rural Cowley County and through several fields.

The driver wrecked the vehicle, which was later determined to be stolen from a Kay Co. Okla. business, and fled on foot. He was detained by law enforcement not far from the vehicle.

The license plate on the truck was determined to have been stolen from a Ponca City car dealership.

56-year-old Douglas Wilson was booked into the Cowley County Jail on charges of felony theft, fleeing and eluding, two counts of possession of stolen property and interference with law enforcement.

Cowley County Sheriff Dave Falletti said his department assisted in the pursuit. When the chase ended, he said, an unidentified woman left the vehicle, running on foot.

She then crawled up a ladder to get on top of an oil tank battery. The top was not solid and the woman fell into oil, he said.

Radio traffic from the scene indicated the woman was in the oil tank for some time before she could be helped out. Efforts were made to assist her in cleaning up and she was then taken to William Newton Hospital for evaluation.

She could also face criminal charges.
