Winfield Kindergartener Tests Positive For Virus; Classroom To Quarantine Rest Of Week

A kindergarten student at Irving in Winfield has tested positive for COVID-19, according to an email form the school district sent to parents Tuesday.

The school district later announced the positive result on social media as well.

The kindergarten classroom, including staff, will be asked to quarantine at home for the rest of the school week, the email said, and that if these staff and students do not develop any virus symptoms, they will be allowed to return to school on Monday, Oct. 19.

Other staff and students who had significant contact with this student are also being sent home and/or being recommended for testing.

The school district will continue to follow all COVID-related safety procedures, including taking temperatures of staff and students, hourly hand-washing, mandatory wearing of masks, social distancing, and optimizing ventilation.

USD 465 said it is in constant communication with the City-Cowley County Health Department and that it will conduct contact tracing and notify any affected families, as well as advise the school district on any further course of action.
