UPDATE: Wichita Man Killed In Train Collision Southeast Of Udall

A Wichita man was killed Saturday morning in a fatality train collision southeast of Udall, according to an update from the Kansas Highway Patrol early Saturday evening.

KHP says next of kin have been notified of the death.

The deceased is Mike Saengsavath. He was 60.

Saengsavath was driving a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup traveling eastbound on 82nd Road in rural Cowley County north of Winfield, when the he failed to yield to a train at the railroad crossing. The vehicle was struck by the train.

A passenger in the pickup, Chomchanh  Khaikham, 55, of Wichita, was seriously injured. He was transported Wesley Medical Center.

The operators of the train, 44-year-old Lance Courson of Andover, and 41-year-old Jason Laughlin, of Derby, were not injured.

EARLIER:

One person was killed and another was seriously injured Saturday morning when a pickup collided with a train in rural Cowley County north of Winfield.

Troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol said the driver of the truck failed to yield at a crossing and was struck by the train’s engine. A person was dead at the scene and another was transported by air ambulance for treatment at a hospital.

Details as to the identity of the deceased were being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The vehicle was struck by the train and dragged for some distance.

Authorities were working a scene in the area of 41st Rd. and 92nd. Rd.
