Ark City Public Services Department Announces Ice Storm Cleanup Plans

Following a significant ice storm Tuesday, the City of Arkansas City has begun the long process of digging out and cleaning up fallen tree limbs and branches, according to a news release from the City Thursday morning.

The Public Services Department spent Wednesday focused entirely on making sure major arterial and collector roadways were passable for through traffic. Once the main roadways are cleared, the department’s focus will shift to smaller residential streets. Alleyways will be the lowest priority.

Residents who are able to do so are asked to remove limbs and branches from the nearby streets and pile them curbside for pickup later. If you are unable to do so, please call (620) 441-4460 during business hours. To report a large tree limb blocking a roadway at any time, you may call (620) 441-3766.

Public Services Department crews eventually will shift toward collecting curbside tree debris, but this effort may not commence for several more days. It is anticipated that curbside pickup will be in full swing by next week and that effort likely will continue for at least two weeks.

In the meantime, residents who have the ability to haul tree debris to the F Street Limb and Compost Site are urged to do so in order to reduce the City’s workload. The F Street location will be opened temporarily for extended hours. Those hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

“We are aware of several tree-cutting services that are contacting residents and charging for their services,” said Ark City Public Services Superintendent Tony Tapia. “If you are paying for that service, make sure it includes hauling off tree debris to F Street. These companies should not be piling limbs on your curb.”

For questions about tree debris pickup procedure or to request specialized assistance, please call (620) 441-4460 during normal business hours.
