USD 470: Jefferson Elementary Latest With Positive COVID Case

An individual at Jefferson Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Ark City USD 470 Wednesday.

This is the fourth USD 470 individual the district has announced this week to test positive for the virus.

Previous positives were at IXL Elementary and Adams Elementary.

Any staff members and students who were believed to be close contacts have already been notified and the district says it plans to continue in-person learning at that site.

The individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed to return to school until they are well and released to do so by the City-Cowley County Health Department.

“With additional cases affecting our district, we remind you to be aware of your health, mindful of your social activity, and to continue taking the proper safety precautions,” the district said. “It will take all of us working together to keep each other safe and our schools open.”

According to Wednesday’s KDHE report, Cowley County has so far totaled 638 cases of COVID-19 since a national emergency proclamation was issued by the White House on March 13

Deaths in the county remain at 11.

The 11th death, a resident at Ark City Presbyterian Manor, was reported by the Manor on Monday.
