Winfield Community Thanksgiving Meal Canceled Due To COVID Concerns

The Winfield Community Thanksgiving dinner has been canceled for this year due to COVID-19 concerns, according to event organizers Thursday.

The cancelation includes deliveries and pick-up.

The free meal has been offered to anyone in the area on Thanksgiving Day for the past 37 years, according to Soroptimist of Winfield President Judy Kunkel.

“It’s a terrible loss for us not to put it on,” Kunkel told KSOK-NewsCow Thursday. “We hate to cancel it, but we don’t want to get anyone sick.”

The meal is a community service effort by Soroptimist of Winfield in partnership with First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Fellowship Hall, where the meal is held at the church, has been closed due to the virus.

Kunkel said last year over 180 people were served.
