Extreme wind chills and snow will make for dangerous weather conditions over the weekend and into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

City of Ark City Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Frazee said Thursday snow is likely Friday night into Saturday, with one to two inches of snow forecast. There is snow likely Sunday into Monday. Although amounts are uncertain, Frazee said six or more inches of accumulating snow is possible.

Bitter cold wind chills of -10 to -25 will affect the entire region for Saturday through Tuesday. NWS-Wichita says to take extra precautions during this period to protect yourself, animals, and property from being harmed or damaged by the extremely cold temperatures.

If you have pets or farm animals, make sure they are not overly exposed to extreme cold and take precautions to protect pipes from freezing.

People exposed to extreme cold are susceptible to frostbite in a matter of minutes. Areas most prone to frostbite are uncovered skin and extremities, such as hands and feet. Dress warm and in layers.
