Dexter Area Elderly Resident Found Dead After Wandering Out Into Frigid Temps

An elderly person was found deceased early Tuesday morning after going missing in the Dexter area, according to multiple sources.

Just before 4 a.m., Ark City Fire-EMS and the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept. were called to the report of an elderly woman who had gone out into the cold without appropriate winter clothing. It was not clear how long the person had been missing, according to radio traffic. Multiple Dexter first responders were also at the scene and arrived in personal vehicles.

She was found deceased a short time later, not far from the residence. The woman was identified Wednesday as Linda Patton, 67, according to Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti.

Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti said more information would be released Wednesday pending notification of next of kin.

The person was said to have dementia related issues, according to radio traffic.

Area law enforcement continue to encourage you to check on senior loved ones, friends and neighbors regularly during these extreme cold temperatures.
