Arrested Juvenile Involved In WHS Threat Is A Winfield Student, Police Chief Says

The juvenile male arrested Thursday for his involvement in a threat made against Winfield High School is a Winfield student, Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong told KSOK-NewsCow Friday morning.

In a news release from the WPD Thursday, police said a call was made to WHS on Wednesday morning and a threat was made against the school.

The WPD was notified and immediately began investigating the threat.

Thursday, police were notified by a local business it had also received a threat phoned into them the night before. Both calls were from the same phone number and it was determined that the phone call had been made from outside of the United States.

“We do believe the calls originated from outside of the country, and also believe there is a connection between the caller and the individual arrested,” DeLong said.

When asked about unsubstantiated reports of a gun found in a backpack at the school, DeLong said those reports were false.

During the investigation, a person of interest was developed, interviewed and a juvenile male was arrested. 

“There is no threat to the community and no further information will be released,” police said.
