The Arkansas City Police Department encourages residents not to park on Central Avenue or Summit Street downtown Friday night into Saturday due to Halfalalah, according to a press release from the ACPD.

Halfalalah, a new event sponsored in part by the Arkalalah Festival and Ark City Chamber of Commerce, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday in downtown Ark City.

The 100 block of North Summit Street and 100 block of Summit Street will be blocked off during the event, with barricades being set in place by the City at 9 a.m. Saturday. They will be removed at 6 p.m.

Central Avenue also will be closed between the alleys in the 100 block east and the 100 block west.

Northbound traffic on Summit Street will be detoured to A Street, while southbound traffic will be detoured to First Street. Central Avenue traffic will be detoured to either Chestnut or Fifth avenues.

Through traffic should consider using the U.S. 77 bypass instead of Summit Street to avoid the area.

Halfalalah will feature a cornhole tournament, a craft show from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., a beer garden sponsored by the Arkansas City Chamber of Commerce at the Burford breezeway, live music, food vendors and a free concert by the Sunset Sinners at 8 p.m. at the Burford Theatre. Doors open at 6 p.m.
