A $1.4 million resurfacing project on U.S. 77 south of Arkansas City will begin soon, according to a news release from the Kansas Department of Transportation Monday.

The KDOT project involves a mill and hot-mix-asphalt overlay on U.S. 77 from the Oklahoma/Kansas border to the south end of the Arkansas River bridge in Cowley County. The length is about 2.9 miles.

During the work – expected to start around May 24 and be completed around June 23 – signs will direct motorists to slow down to 55 mph, and traffic could be restricted to one lane in each direction.

APAC-Kansas Inc., of Hutchinson, is the main contractor for the $1,397,449 project.
