Beginning Monday, Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield plays host to the Kansas State High School Activities Association 6A Boys Golf State Championships.

According to a news release Sunday from the City of Winfield, championship contestants will play the 6,826 yard par 72 links style lay-out that features zoysia grass fairways, dense rough, multiple native grass areas, and firm and fast greens.

The hosting reflects Quail Ridge Golf Course’s place as a championship condition course in Kansas, the City said.

The 2021 championship field will consist of 93 tournament contestants, hundreds of spectators, and several high school golf coaches.

“Hosting these State Championships allows The City of Winfield, Quail Ridge Golf Course, and the many local businesses in Winfield the opportunity to show our visitors the outstanding hospitality our residents have become so familiar with,” said Brad Sexson, Head Golf Professional.

Designed by Tulsa architect Jerry Slack, Quail Ridge Golf Course opened for play in 1992 and is located in South Central Kansas.

Owned by the City of Winfield, Quail Ridge is situated along the Walnut River, nestled alongside the Flint Hills. This area more specifically separates the arid grasslands of the western prairies and the more lush eastern prairies.

Quail Ridge boasts zoysiagrass fairways, bent grass greens, and fescue roughs. Under the care of Golf Course Superintendent Jeff Aldrich, course playing surfaces are consistently considered among the very best in the area.

Golf Digest has regularly honored Quail Ridge as a 4 1/2 Star course on its places to play list.
