McCoy, who graduated from Southwestern in 1974, had been a longtime supporter of the college before he began serving as a volunteer consultant for athletics. As a volunteer, he helped manage game day events for several years prior to formally joining Southwestern in 2018 as athletic director.

Before becoming athletic director, McCoy enjoyed great success coaching at the high school and collegiate levels for 20 years. He coached at several large high schools before serving as wide receiver coach and on-campus recruiting coordinator at Kansas State University.

His career then led him to indoor professional football, where he stood out during 20 years of experience in professional sports management.

McCoy worked as a sports management consultant, primarily for arena football franchises, and from 2004 to 2015 served as the general manager of several professional indoor football teams.

During McCoy’s tenure as athletic director at Southwestern, several athletic programs achieved remarkable seasons and enjoyed conference and post-season success. Additionally, McCoy developed community connections that have increased support and attendance at home athletic events.

“It has truly been an honor to work with a wonderful group of coaches, student-athletes, and administrators. I’ve also enjoyed the relationships we’ve established with the Winfield community – all of the businesses, schools, and civic organizations,” said McCoy. “I’m particularly proud of our success in this last year, however it was a very long year; I’ve never seen anything like it.

“It will be nice to have more time with my family and I’m grateful for the support of my wife, children, and grandchildren. And I’m looking forward to continuing to support and cheer on our Builders.”
