A Winfield teen was killed in a late-night shooting near Augusta over the weekend, according to a news release from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday afternoon.
The name of the victim has not been released.
At approximately 1:21 a.m. Sunday, Butler County deputies were dispatched to the scene of a shooting at a large party in the 6200 block of SW Church Road northwest of Augusta.
Upon arrival, deputies located a 17-year-old male resident of Winfield with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to witnesses, there was an altercation between the 17-year-old victim and 18-year-old Jacob Anton DeLeon, of Haysville, when he was shot.

Later that morning, Butler County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested DeLeon in connection with the shooting.
He has since been charged with Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He is currently being held on a $200,000 bond at the Butler County Jail.
This was a large party and investigators are still trying to contact any other witnesses, victims, or people who were in attendance.
