State Awards More Road Improvement Funding For The Region

More road improvement dollars have been allocated for the region, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

Governor Laura Kelly announced Tuesday 36 Kansas cities will receive a combined total of $23 million to improve highways and intersections as part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s City Connecting Link Improvement Program.

K-55 near Belle Plaine will receive $2 million in back-to-back years for pavement restoration.

According to the news release, pavement restoration projects are funded up to $1 million and typically involve full-depth pavement replacement without changes to the overall geometric characteristics and may also address drainage issues.

U.S. 160 near Wellington will be allocated $300,000 for surface preservation work and U.S. 77 near Winfield will also receive $300,000 for surface preservation.

U.S. 77 near El Dorado is also slated to receive $300,000 for surface preservation and U.S. 54 near Augusta will also receive the same funding for surface preservation.

Surface preservation projects involve maintenance work such as resurfacing and are funded up to $300,000 per project.

The projects are for fiscal years 2022-2024. A City Connecting Link is any routing of the State Highway System located within the corporate limits of a city.

Demand for CCLIP funding was high with cities having dealt with the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the governor’s office said. KDOT received 61 applications for funding.
