Ark City Man Wielding Knife Arrested In Connection With Assault, Battery

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Ark City man on Sunday afternoon in connection with a violent altercation involving a knife.

According to a news release Tuesday afternoon, Kenneth Ray Wyrick, 54, was arrested on suspicion of two felony counts of aggravated assault involving the use of a deadly weapon, one felony count of aggravated battery and one misdemeanor count of battery-domestic violence.

Wyrick was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield on a bond of $31,500 through Cowley County District Court in Ark City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.

Officers were dispatched around 2:59 p.m. Sunday to a residence at 810 N. Fifth St. for a report of a disturbance involving an intoxicated man with a knife.

Police arriving at the scene contacted Wyrick, who was extremely intoxicated. They also contacted a 58-year-old Ark City woman and her son, a 32-year-old Ark City man, who lived at the home.

Further investigation determined Wyrick had allegedly battered the woman while holding a knife.

When the woman’s son tried to intervene, he and Wyrick began to struggle on the floor and Wyrick allegedly tried to stab the man with the knife. The victim had several lacerations on his back and chest.
