WPD: Winfield Man Killed In Motorcycle Accident

A Winfield man was killed Wednesday evening in a motorcycle accident, according to a news release from the Winfield Police Department Thursday.

Just before 6 p.m., officers with the WPD were dispatched to the 2800 block of E. 9th Avenue (U.S. Highway 160) regarding an injury accident involving a truck and a motorcycle.

Responding officers were told a witness was on scene performing CPR on one of the persons involved.

During the course of the accident investigation police determined a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Billy McArtor, 81, of Winfield, was facing east and was stopped waiting on westbound traffic to pass so he could turn northbound into a private parking lot.

A Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by Steven Anstaett, 39, also of Winfield, was traveling eastbound on E. 9th Avenue.

Anstaett’s motorcycle collided with the back of the pickup truck driven by McArtor.

Life saving measures were attempted, however, Anstaett was pronounced deceased at the scene.

That portion of the highway was closed both directions for approximately two hours following the accident.

The Winfield Police Department was assisted by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, Winfield Fire/EMS, and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
