Health Dept. Reports 4 New COVID Deaths; County Total Now 122

Four more COVID-related deaths were reported last week according to the latest update from the City-Cowley County Health Department Tuesday.

So far, 122 Cowley County residents have died from complications related to COVID-19 infection since the first death in the county was reported April 2020

The health department also reported there have been 490 new cases of the virus so far in September alone. That tops August’s single-month total of 488 new cases.

Overall, new cases continue to be overwhelmingly among the unvaccinated, according to CCCHD data.

Since March 31st of this year, 91.2 percent of new COVID cases — 1,050 of 1,262 — have been those who are not vaccinated.

Total “break-through” cases, where a vaccinated individual tests positive for the virus, totals 112 overall for the county so far. However, those individuals at worst experience mild cold-like symptoms for a short duration of time that rarely require hospitalization. 

Since the pandemic began, Cowley County has totaled 5,131 COVID cases, according to Monday’s report from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment — an increase of 36 new cases since Friday’s report. 

Statewide, there 2,528 new cases of the virus from Friday through Monday, including 62 new deaths and 113 new hospitalizations. 

The daily active case count in the the county is down slightly from averaging 100 to now averaging 80.
