ACPD Investigates Shooting Of Empty Vehicle

The Arkansas City Police Department is investigating a shooting incident early Wednesday morning in central Ark City, with no injuries reported afterward.

According to a news release from the ACPD Friday, officers were dispatched early Wednesday morning to the 1300 block of North First Street for a report of gunshots being fired. They searched the area and spoke with numerous individuals.

However, no damage or victims were located at that time. Since then, officers have learned that shots were fired at a vehicle in the area, striking this vehicle numerous times.

At this time, no arrests have been made in this case and the police department is asking anyone who might have information about this incident to contact police or Cowley County Crime Stoppers.

“With the recent increase in gun violence locally and nationally, the Arkansas City Police Department wants to continue to encourage all residents and visitors to properly secure their firearms,” said Police Chief Eric Burr. “With the upcoming local celebrations, all are reminded to practice safety for themselves and their property.

“Also, if you have not recorded the serial numbers on your firearms or other valuables, please do so, along with taking photographs in case they are ever stolen.”
