USD 470 BOE Votes To Extend Fall Break Starting Friday; Students To Return Nov. 29

Starting Friday, USD 470 will have no school until after the Thanksgiving break.

Ark City USD 470 voted Tuesday night in a special meeting to turn Nov. 19th, 22nd, and 23rd into “wellness days.”

The decision to extend the district’s Fall Break was made in an effort to provide a mental health break for students and staff while also addressing the increase in COVID cases throughout the district.

Nov. 19th, 22nd and the 23rd will be paid days off for all administrators, faculty, and staff members except for those working at the District Office, USD 470 said in an email Tuesday night. Employees have the option of coming to work sites on Friday. All sites will be closed Nov.24-26 as previously scheduled.

“We appreciate the ongoing support of our staff and families as we navigate the rise in COVID cases within our schools.” the district said. “It is our hope that taking this additional time away will help ensure we return with lower COVID numbers, refreshed, and ready to learn in-person come Monday, November 29, 2021.”

The decision by the school board follows temporary closures of Adams Elementary and IXL Elementary due to rising COVID numbers.
