Weekend Fires Do Damage To Three Structures In The Ark City Area

The Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department responded to three separate structure fires last holiday weekend, with three buildings damaged, according to a written release from the city of Ark City.

In the first incident, ACFD was dispatched about 2 a.m. Friday to 7637 252nd Place, north of Arkansas City, for a report of a structure fire. After arriving, crews found a small amount of fire remaining on the exterior of the structure after the resident had used a fire extinguisher.

The loss is estimated at $30,000. Units from the Udall and Winfield fire departments were dispatched to assist with the fire, but were able to disregard while en route. The cause of this structure fire remains under investigation.

In the second incident, ACFD was dispatched about 11:30 p.m. Friday to 29654 Shady Court, east of Arkansas City, for a report of a structure fire. Crews found a fire in the wall behind the fireplace that was extinguished quickly. They remained on scene for several hours to look for and extinguish hot spots in the home’s wall and attic.

The monetary loss of the structure is estimated at $30,000. Units from the Udall and Winfield fire departments were dispatched to assist with the fire, but again were able to disregard while en route. The cause of this structure fire also remains under investigation.

In the third incident, ACFD was dispatched about 3 a.m. Monday to 501 North D St. in Arkansas City for a report of a structure fire. After arriving, crews found a fire coming from a front window and burning through the area on the south side. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of firefighters’ arrival.

The Udall Fire Department was dispatched to assist, but later asked to disregard, while the Winfield Fire-EMS Department assisted with firefighting and overhaul operations. The monetary loss of the structure is estimated at $40,000. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
