The Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man Wednesday on drug and firearm charges after a SWAT team searched his home, according to a press release.

Cody Christopher Ranger, 29, was arrested on a warrant for probation violation from Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City.

He also was arrested on suspicion of one felony count each of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, no drug tax stamp, possession with intent to distribute heroin within 1,000 feet of a school, possession with intent to distribute marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession with intent to distribute narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school, as well as one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ranger was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield with no bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.

Arkansas City officers, with the assistance of the Southern Kansas SWAT team, executed a search warrant Wednesday at a residence located at 415 N. Sixth St. in west-central Arkansas City.

The residence had been identified previously as being used to harbor Ranger, a wanted suspect who was reported to be armed with a firearm. SWAT later located Ranger hiding in the house’s attic.

He was taken into custody without incident. A search of the residence found a large quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, controlled substance pills and a substance suspected to be heroin. Officers also located a firearm in the home.
