Udall Schools, City Of Burden Receive State Waste Tire Product Grants

Udall Schools, Dist. 463, and the City of Burden are among 28 organizations statewide to receive waste tire product grants through the Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment.

The Department’s Bureau of Waste Management announced the recipients this week. A total of $436,172 was awarded.

That money can be used to fund projects that include the use of recycled tire products like playground surfacing and picnic tables. Udall Elementary received just over $46,000 for playground surfacing and the City of Burden received roughly $2,000 for picnic tables.

The grants are funded by revenue collected through the tire excise tax, a $0.25/vehicle tire fee. Awards are made annually.
