Child, 12, Struck By Vehicle Friday At Winfield Intersection

A 12-year-old child was struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon while attempting to cross a Winfield street.

The child sustained non-critical injuries and was transported to William Newton Hospital for treatment. They were not identified by name by Winfield Police due to their age.

The child was expected to make a full recovery.

According to Police Chief Robbie DeLong, the child was on a bike and attempting to cross Bliss westbound at 12th Ave. A northbound vehicle, driven by Shawn Bean, 54, of Winfield, struck the child crossing the street.

Bean reported minor injuries and was evaluated by EMS at the scene.

He was cited for no proof of insurance and expired vehicle registration.
