63-Year-Old Man Struck And Injured By Car On Main In Winfield Friday; Driver Cited

A Winfield driver struck and injured a pedestrian in downtown Winfield Friday afternoon, according to a report from local police.

22-year-old Bryce G. Venable was issued a citation for no proof of insurance and failure to yield to a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 63-year-old man who was not identified by name, was transported to Wichita for treatment of his injuries, according to Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong.

At approximately 4:10 p.m. the day of the incident, officers were dispatched to the area of the intersection of 12th Ave. and Main Street for a motor vehicle collision involving a 2015 Chrysler 300 and a pedestrian.

During the investigation officers learned that the vehicle was at the intersection of 13th Ave. and Main Street facing east attempting to make a left turn and go north on Main. While the vehicle was making the left turn a pedestrian on foot was attempting to cross Main.

The vehicle struck the pedestrian and initial reports came out that the driver had fled the scene. However, DeLong said, the driver did call 911 and waited in the area for officers to arrive.

So far, police have not received an updated condition on the pedestrian.
