Cowley County River Info And Rainfall Totals For This Week

Heavy rainfall in South Central Kansas has caused Cowley County waterways to rise this week.

The National Weather Service lists the following 72-hour rainfall totals, ending early Thursday, for various Cowley County locations.

Winfield 3 Miles NE: 2.43, Strother Field 3.13, Ark City: 3.04, Winfield: 2.87.

Farther west, some totals were much higher. Conway Springs, in Sumner County, reported more than 6 inches of rainfall.

Arkansas River at Arkansas City was 11.9 ft, at 6 am, still rising, is forecast to crest around 12.7 ft. Saturday (28th) morning, fall below flood stage of 11 Ft Saturday evening.

Walnut at Arkansas City was 14.5 ft, rising 6 am, crest around 15 ft Saturday (28th). 18 foot is flood stage.

Walnut at Winfield was 14.4 Ft, Rising 6 am, Crest around 17.5 ft later tonight. (18 ft is flood stage)
