Highway Patrol Identifies Those Involved In Semi Collision In East Winfield

Three vehicles were involved in a fiery crash in east Winfield that diverted traffic for hours and sent a man to the hospital with potentially serious injuries, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

At 7:01 a.m., Mark E. Stokes Jr., 41, of El Dorado was northbound on the K-360 bypass in a 2007 Peterbilt semi truck. The highway patrol reports that the semi failed to stop at the stop sign at the junction of K-360 and U.S. 160.

It collided with a 1996 Peterbilt semi driven by 27-year-old Mauricio Quinonez, of Wichita. Quinonez was eastbound on U.S. 160. He was struck on the passenger side of the semi truck he was driving and the collision caused his trailer to strike a westbound 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by 33-year-old Breayle D. Shelton of Winfield.

Stokes Jr. was transported to Wesley Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The KHP reports no license plate for the truck could be found in the wreckage. The semi’s state of origin was Nebraska.

Quinonez was taken to William Newton Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Shelton and a child under one year of age, three-month-old Ender Shelton, were said to have sustained minor injuries. Breayle Shelton refused EMS treatment at the scene and Ender Shelton was taken to the Winfield hospital in a private vehicle.
