Winfield PD: Taser Used To Subdue Man With Knife During Incident Friday

A 44-year-old Winfield man was subdued with a Taser Friday morning during an incident in which he is said to have threatened others, including officers, with a knife, according to a written statement from police.

Just before noon, Winfield officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of E. 12th Ave for the report of a disturbance. A man was said to be armed with a knife and attempting to force open the door of a residence.

He had also threatened people with the knife.

Police arrived and immediately encountered Robert M. Perin, who refused commands to drop the knife. At one point he’s said to have lunged at officers while brandishing the knife.

An initial attempt to use a Taser on Perin was not effective. A second use of the Taser did allow officers to take Perin into custody without further incident. He was then taken to William Newton Hospital for evaluation of injuries sustained in the incident.

He was later booked into the Cowley County Jail on multiple charges that include two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
