Main Street Building In Burden Burns

A fire Tuesday evening in Burden caused extensive smoke and fire damage to a building on Main, according to Chris Cannon, fire chief for Cowley County Rural Fire Dist. 3.

The building, located in the 400 block, had most recently been a pizzeria.

Around 8:30 p.m., Burden firefighters arrived on the scene to find the single-story commercial structure with heavy smoke and fire showing. Charlie Dennett told NewsCow he saw the fire and immediately called 911.

Chief Cannon said the roof of the building had collapsed prior to the fire, so an exterior-only attack was made. The structure was unoccupied at the time of the blaze and a cause remains under investigation.

Structure and contents received extensive fire and smoke damage.

Fire units from Atlanta, Cambridge, and Winfield also responded to the scene and assisted in extinguishing the fire. Burden PD and Cowley SO deputies also assisted with scene control and shut down US 160 and Main Street.
